National Maternal Health and Family Planning Coordinator

  • Full time contract position for 6 months with an option for a further 6 months
  • PNG PS Class 5 Grade 12
  • Based in Kavieng, NIP, PNG

This new role is to expand ADI’s reproductive health and family planning work into other provinces using the same successful model already underway in New Ireland. This is a leadership and development role to support existing Provincial government family planning services through improving awareness of reproductive rights in communities, facilitating training for health workers and increasing access to family planning for women living in rural and remote areas.


Relationship building and stakeholder management:

  • Conduct scoping and stakeholder mapping in relevant provinces outside New Ireland
  • Engage key provincial stakeholders in the design and adaptation of /ADI’s family planning model in other provinces
  • Represent ADI in networking and collaboration with health stakeholders to ensure ADI’s efforts contribute to strengthening maternal safety, family planning and the health system to deliver PNG Standards and National Objectives
  • Engage with rural communities to develop integrated community approaches to family planning and reproductive rights
  • Work with all family planning stakeholders in other provinces to encourage improved coordination between delivery, access and supply of family planning services
  • Work closely with ADI’s program team in Australia through regular phone calls and status reporting

Project design and implementation:

  • Model and implement the ADI NI family planning program in provinces outside New Ireland
  • Work alongside senior PHA maternal health and family planning personnel to plan emergency obstetrics and family planning training for rural health workers in other provinces
  • Identify and develop plan to address gaps in improving access to family planning services
  • Assist ADI to develop outreach patrols to rural and remote areas that will further support rural health workers
  • Maintain detailed program data recording and documentation, including monitoring, evaluation and reporting responsibilities


Required skills and experience:

  • Qualifications and/or minimum 5 years’ experience in nursing, reproductive rights or public health
  • Demonstrated experience in networking and strategic stakeholder management
  • Demonstrated ability to analyse health problems and service delivery and advocate for improvements
  • Previous experience in training, capacity building or mentoring
  • High level time management and professional organisational skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook Express
  • Ability to manage basic laptop/desktop IT communication (USB modem, email, digital photos, etc)

Required interpersonal attributes:

  • Ability to work independently
  • Excellent listening and communication skills, both spoken and written
  • Ability to travel to other provinces
