Dr. Denise Wild, a GP with vast experience working in remote and Indigenous communities in Australia, is currently on assignment in Western Province thanks to sponsorship from Roche Products. Her husband Marco Sartori, a carpenter and photographer, is there too, helping ADI and the Mission with building repairs and taking photos of our fieldwork. Read more

Dr. Dominik Stepien
"I believe that nothing gives you a better understanding of a culture and people than living and working among them," said Dominik upon signing on with ADI in early 2010. His experience includes running an emergency department, supervising medical students, and working with Aboriginal communities.

Dr. Josette Docherty & Allan Mason
Equipped with a special interest in obstetrics and gynecology, Sydney GP Dr. Josette Docherty headed to Western Province in late 2009. She was accompanied by her husband Allan, an occupational first aid trainer who jointly assisted on patrol. The duo also trained local health workers and gave health talks to schoolchildren. Josette and Allan will return to PNG in 2010. Read more

Dr. Avik Majumdar & Dr. Katrina Pirie
Adventurous couple Dr. Avik Majumdar and Dr. Katrina Pirie joined forces in 2009 to prove that two doctors can make more difference than one. Highlights of their three month assignment included overseeing the fifth round of MDA for filariasis in the remote Nomad region and flying down to Middle Fly to conduct the first ever ADI patrol in the Aramia River region. Dr. Verena Doolabh
A year after rehabilitating herself to walk again after being shot in the spine in Jordan, RACGP GP Registrar of the Year 2008 Dr. Verena Doolabh trekked to Everest Base Camp in Nepal. Then she volunteered with ADI in PNG. "I believe that you only grow as a person if you continually challenge yourself," said plucky Verena, whose assignment featured a gruelling medical patrol to Star Mountains and a night lost on the Fly River. Louise Devereux, RN
ADI welcomes volunteer nurses too! Louise Devereux, an experienced nurse and health administrator from Melbourne, spent six months in Western Province in early 2009. Whilst there she helped facilitate in-service training for health workers and hospital staff, supported the Catholic Health Office, and conducted scoping expeditions to Middle Fly and South Fly.
