Title:  General Manager of Finance and Operations 

Australian Doctors International (ADI) is working on the front lines of COVID response and vaccine roll out in Papua New Guinea. With new partnerships secured and growth on our horizon we are searching for an exceptional people-focused leader to work closely with the CEO and program team to guide our finance and operations.

ADI has been working in Papua New Guinea for twenty years supporting the governments of Western Province, New Ireland and more recently, West New Britain to provide health services to rural and remote communities and build the capabilities of local health workforces. We are a small, high performing team passionate about improving health systems.

We’d love to hear from candidates with experience living and/or working in Papua New Guinea or open to learning about the culture.

In this role you will work across all levels of the finance, business operations providing high level strategic advice to the CEO and Finance Committee. Leading the finance and HR teams you will ensuring the smooth administration of all our finances, HR, service contracts and compliance.

Location:          Sydney

Duration:          12 months with possibility of extension depending on experience

Salary:             $90,000 – $100,000 + super

Role:                In this role you will work across all levels of the finance, business operations providing high level strategic advice to the CEO and Finance Committee. Leading the finance and HR teams you will ensuring the smooth administration of all our finances, HR, service contracts and compliance.

Reports to:       CEO

Responsibilities:

Financial Planning, Management and Reporting

  • Ensure our systems and processes deliver strong and effective governance of our finances
  • Support the CEO and Senior Program Manager in effective budget management and reporting to donors and large grant partners
  • Support the CEO in budget development, tracking and financial reporting
  • Ensure the Board, CEO and staff have timely and accurate financial information.
  • Ensure all staff and volunteers are well trained on finance policies and procedures
  • Oversee the processing of all accounts payable/receivable by the Bookkeeper and Finance Officer
  • Oversee the annual audit

Administration and Management

  • Directly manage relevant staff members, including bookkeeper, finance officer, office manager and HR manager
  • Oversee the organisation’s day to day office management, including negotiation and management of service agreements/contract, leases, insurance etc
  • Manage the organisation’s policies, procedures and compliance requirements

Strategy, Planning and Reporting

  • Oversee organisational reporting to the CEO
  • Contribute to organisational and grant reporting, including annual report and ANCP reports
  • Support the CEO, General Manager of Strategic Partnerships, and Senior Program Manager in development of fundraising initiatives and grant applications

IT Management

  • Ensure effective IT systems, overseeing the strategic direction of the organisation’s IT needs
  • Manage IT consultants that provide operational support services

Essential Criteria

  • CPA/CA Qualified
  • Excellent management, operational, financial and administrative skills
  • Experience in organisational development, policies and planning
  • Experience managing and supporting staff
  • Ability to take initiative, develop solutions and work in a small team
  • Strong team player with effective interpersonal and communication skills

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience with Not-for-Profit sector
  • Experience managing policies and procedures in line with ANCP requirements highly regarded
  • Experience managing budgets associated with grants from large international donor agencies such as DFAT, UNICEF, USAID, TGF, World Bank highly regarded
  • Experience living and/or working in Papua New Guinea highly regarded
  • Tertiary qualifications in Business Administration, Management or similar
